Every so often it’s good to be reminded that the business you’re in is a small world. News or words can travel real fast. I’m starting to get to a point where my phone is ringing for music to be created by me. That’s a good spot to be in. Recently, one venue where I’m getting a lot of music calls from mentioned that they had supplied my name to an aggregator of music, or rather a library. All I could do was chuckle about it and that’s all I’m gonna write about it.
Instead, I’m making sure that I make myself invaluable by being easy to work with and quick to make any needed changes for edits. Fortunately my editing chops will get a serious boost in productivity this coming weekend with the release of the new version of Logic. People think I’m fast and efficient now. Based on what I’m reading about the new version it will cut my time by nearly 2/3. That’s a substantial savings in time. Not that all music needs to be edited that fast, but in the efforts of trailer music, most edits need to be done pronto.
This should help me keep my edge over a library when custom music is needed.
Today though, is about the sun. Here in Los Angeles we’re getting a lot of the sun. It’s been warm and if I’m not mistaken a record amount of heat. It’s not overly bad, at least I don’t think so. But my puppy Dorian is getting to the point where I need to get him out to socialize with other dogs. Since he’s had all his shots, I figured it was as good a day as any to get him out to the dog park. After and early recording session, I took lunch before my afternoon recording session. Lunch was some food and taking Dorian to go run at the dog park.
Normally when it’s only one other dog, Dorian is ok, for some reason Dorian was not taking to well at first to the pack of dogs and the expanse of the park. He generally stayed close to me and in the shade. Didn’t seem to want to run around much in the sun, not like the other dogs. I’ll probably take him back out there a couple times in the next several days to make sure he’s getting used to it.
That’s where I’m making the connection for today’s song which is about the path the sun takes. It’s got a cool laid back vibe. I like the mellow strumming the multitude of guitar layers going on. The drums are solid and laying down a consistent groove. The vocal is making me think of something old school without feeling old. I like that. It’s got a classic feel, but it doesn’t sound dated. That’s a great place for a song to be when it’s new. To feel like a comfortable pair of jeans that are brand new. Like a sort of pre-broken in type of thing or something.
Enjoy your day. I’ve got to get ready for the next session! Get out there and see the sun.
