For all the planning that can go into the life of a musician, there is one thing that does happen – life. The need for a song to get written can happen at any moment and often we have to jump at it. Such is the case that I’m facing today. I’m doing something for a video and I need to start getting to it asap. It’s gonna be a busy day.
I would like it to be a sweet day. As songs go, I guess I’ll go with something artificially sweet. It goes against my organic nature, but bear with me. A tune from a while back from a band who had a shining career for a little while. Haven’t heard much from them lately, but the great thing is having the CD and being able to pull it out and revisit it is a wonderful thing.
This particular song is a little interesting lyrically as a song I was working on over the weekend had some concepts discussed as they relate to a return to saturn. For those in the astrology world – it has something to do with major events in life that apparently occur every 29 years or between 27-30.
I’m guessing that Gwen was smack dab in the middle of that return to saturn when this album was written and recorded. I suppose it’s why men are warned against dating women who are between 27 and 29. Not the writing of the album, but the trouble that women face at that age. Gwen was obviously having some drastic changes. Oddly enough I know of a girl hitting 28 in about a month who is also going thru major changes – and is ignoring that which is good around her.
The open guitar riff is one of those guitar parts that are instantly recognizable. Of course so is Gwen’s voice. Smoking production is what ties all of this together. But then when you’re a band selling millions at the top of your game, you get to work with the cream of the crop. It all helps.
Hopefully Gwen’s life is less of a mess now. Hell I hope my friend gets her shit together soon too.
