There’s a movie that opens tonight in Los Angeles called The Cake Eaters. It’s a movie directed by Mary Stuart Masterson. I know of her because of being an old family friend. Thus I’m likely to be going to the show tonight to check it out. Doesn’t hurt that Kristen Stewart is one of the stars. I like her. I haven’t got a strong gist of the story, but I gather that it’s about a girl who is going thru some sort of medical problem who meets a man much older than she is, and they fall in love or something.
I’m finally starting to see some of the work I’ve been doing pay off. That’s a good thing. Although I’m set to go back into the studio one more time for the punk CD I’ve been doing with my friend Robert. Seems the company wasn’t happy with some of the acoustic guitar tones. The drag on that is, I need to borrow a guitar since mine was sent back to the factory for some repairs and upgrades. Bonus is, Taylor is making sure I’ll have a guitar to use from a local gear company. Plus another friend is loaning me use of her guitar.
I’ll be taking off in a moment to run a few errands and to visit my buddy Erez’s drum recording studio. I’ve done some vocal recording and mixing for him, and I’ve yet to see his setup. But I know that I will be wanting to do some drum recording with him in the near future.
Afterwards I’ll be coming back to the studio to put some finishing touches on a trailer score I’m doing that is very similar to a video game soundtrack. Where all the parts I create need to fit together, but work at different times in the timeline. It’s proving to be interesting.
Without further ado I bring you Telling on Trixie. I figured with the earlier romp this week with Chrissy Hynde at the Kibitz room it’s a good idea to showcase something that fit along the lines of something like old school Pretenders. This a bit more rock than the punk attitude the Pretenders have, but it kinda reminded me of that vibe. So that’s where I’m making the connection. Besides, I like the laugh going on during a bit of the verse. It’s in the background on the left. Nice little addition.
The guitars are filling up the space with a rock sensibility of who cares. The drums are punching a straight ahead beat and the beat is holding down the bottom. The vocals are pushing out over the top. All lend themselves to that rock thang. And even more a part of the rock thang is, I have no idea what A N F O means. Someone care to explain?
Dig it? Go get it!
