Seeing as how I’ve been a little overworked with new music requests from my brain, I’ve been a starting to miss posts on the weekends. While I’m not sure that I’ll miss tomorrow’s post, I do want to make sure that I talk about a news story in music history.
The BBC is running a story about the cover of the album Abbey Road by the Beatles. BBC Story
I couldn’t embed the video – silly people.
It’s about the infamous crosswalk in London where the Beatles were photographed crossing the street. It’s an iconic cover. It’s also interesting to read and hear about the changes in title and cover concepts. That’s the bonus of brainstorming eh?
Why do I find it significant to mention this story? I’ll tell ya. I’ve been to London thanks to Claire Telep a former girlfriend of mine who is British. In our travels around her homeland we made a trek to the infamous crosswalk. Unlike those in the BBC story and the cover of the album, it was late at night. Also, I didn’t have other bandmates there, just Claire and I. That didn’t stop me from zipping across the crosswalk, taking my shoes off and strutting from one side of the street to the other while Claire took a photo.
A wet London road, bare feet, minimal traffic and a camera that didn’t have a good enough flash led to a very dark photo. I would post it, however, it’s so grained out and dark that it’s not worth it. I will have that memory though. I do plan on getting back there at some point in a day time hour to see it and maybe do it again.
In light of that story of mine, and the anniversary of the album cover (which is tomorrow), I’ve decided it’s worth it to share a Beatles tune done by another artist. PJ Pacifico. He’s done a version of I Want To Hold Your Hand using the Ukulele as the main instrument. Sorta like Paul McCartney out on tour doing a George Harrison song on Uke as well. Only PJ has gone slower and lower.
It’s a unique take on a very familiar song. It’s not yet available on your favorite download sites, but keep an eye out for it and get it soon.
