Closing in on the end of the year and last minute business is getting conducted all over the place. First there’s a shift going on in football. For all you university football fans Bobby Petrino has now been named the new head coach over at the University of Arkansas. Since I’m not super versed on my U-ball, I can’t say what it means, but I hear it’s impressive. I suppose UA will likely start seeing some improvements eh?
Improvements probably mean money. And if it’s more money, then it becomes big money then we probably mean someone like Vikram Pandit. Vikram is the new CEO of Citigroup Inc. Chances are you might have a mortgage with a Citi company if you own a house. They do big business and have been in the news for troublesome things recently. Can he turn it around? Or will it lead to more stress.
Maybe Alex Trebek is having a little too much stress from all the questions he’s asked. Has Citigroup ever been an answer on Jeopardy? I wonder. Hmmm… Maybe not, then again, I wouldn’t know as I don’t have the means to watch the show on any kind of regular basis. Alex recently had a minor heart attack and has been hospitalized. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen someone have that happen, but I know someone who has. She’s a trooper.
Trooping. Did I make that up? I don’t think so, otherwise my spell check would have underlined it in red. Yet trooping appears to be a-ok. Hold on, I’m going to look up the definition. Ok, it means what I thought it did. It’s a description for a large group, i.e. troop and one that is doing something. So, can I ask how it is that Tila Tequilla amassed such a troop? As I was chatting with a friend yesterday, they were watching some show, a finale if you will. They couldn’t believe how dopey it was. Remember, music isn’t always about talent, it’s about draw. If you can draw the fans, the money will roll in. Apparently Tila is very good at drawing – drawing what, I have no idea. Though I may actually be friends with her on Myspace. Isn’t she like Tom – Everyone’s friend?
Coming around to a musician, Janie Liszewski (who is Eddie Van Halen’s PR agent and live-in girlfriend), has let the world know that Eddie’s yard is in need of clean up. They are happy that the damage was not worse. Maybe someone was attempting to put out the new fire in the Van Halen touring world. One of the great guitarists of the world is out shredding. I think they’re even playing this Friday in Los Angeles.
Whew, that’s a whole lotta stuff going on, especially in the past few hours. Don’t expect it to stop today. Does it relate to music. Not really. It’s kinda just crap. However, it’s the little day to day moments, that can use a little clean up from crap. Take today’s song for instance. C Out Of Rap. There’s no C in Rap. But if you take the C off of Crap you get Rap. I think there’s an implication there. That Rap might = crap. I don’t believe that. Like any style some is good, some is bad, some is great, some is terrible.
CPR – Clark, Pauken, & Ricketts are what I would consider to be a power trio. And if I’m not mistaken, not the first trio to name themselves as CPR for short. Though the other CPR members escape me at the moment. Power. That’s a good word for the playing going on. It seems that Ricketts is an in demand guitarist who has played on a number of things that you may have heard, but had no idea who it was. I can say it’s guitar shred in a fine light. There’s no doubt the man can play. He even has elements of other shred players I’ve featured here in the past. It’s all recorded extremely clean. Tons o’ riffs. More like a riff o’ rama. Not only by Michael but also by Clark and Pauken. All sharp players, very capable of the stuff they’re playing.
I can think of Michael Lee Firkins, Greg Howe sounds like he’s sprinkled in there, a smidge of Eddie VH, a dash of Tony MacAlpine, and possibly a sprig of Steve Morse. That’s the combination I’m hearing. I wonder if my ears are the auditory version of the character in the movie Perfume. Which is rented the other night. Crazy flick that is highly original and worth renting on DVD. Though I’m not going to go murder anyone over sounds. No, instead I’m pushing through a little break in Christmas to say hey! There’s more going on than the holiday. Join in.
