Yesterday was a fun day of driving through parts of Utah that I had not yet explored. It’s a great thing to know that there are parts of this country that can still be quite new to a person (me) and be interesting to see. Our first stop was a little town called Duck Creek Village. Very small town. Lots and lots of realtors there, actually it seemed that about everyone on the main strip of the town was a realtor. Very odd. We stopped for gas and while I went inside I saw a fantastic sign on one of the coolers for beverages. It said: Be nice or leave.
Another really odd sign we saw was a speed limit sign for snowmobiles. One would think that growing up in a snow playground like Park City, I’d have seen something like that before. Noooooooo, no, no. This was a first. It was funny and my sister decided to take a picture of it.
From there we backtracked a little to a national park called Cedar Breaks. If you’ve seen Bryce Canyon, then you’ve seen something very similar. The difference is, you can’t hike down into Cedar Breaks and Cedar Breaks is at a higher altitude. If you haven’t seen Bryce Canyon, then Cedar Breaks will be a marvel. It’s got hoodoos and spires. It’s also got lots of colors in the rocks. They range from white to orange to purplish and more. Each color is caused by different content of elements in the rock.
From there we booted over to Bryce Canyon. We spent a little time walking the ridge and even went down in about 1/4 mile. Bryce Canyon is where we’re spending a good portion of the day today as well. For my birthday my sister is giving me a helicopter ride through Bryce Canyon which should prove to be really fun.
The isolation feeling you get from being in these areas is something I feel could be accentuated by some nice mellow music. Much like what you’re hearing right now. Though the native music of the area would likely be Hopi Indian or something, I haven’t much experience nor catalog depth with any of that. So I’ve got the soundtrack from India that could fit just as nicely. Prasant contacted me a few months back about the blog and recently pointed me in the direction of his new album East Facing. And in the scheme of looking at Bryce Canyon we were doing just that, facing east.
His entire album has a flow that almost makes it feel like it’s one long expression from beginning to end. It makes me feel like I could put it on, sit on the edge of a place like Bryce or even the Grand Canyon and meditate while taking in the scenery. Very calming stuff. I’m not sure if that’s the real intent of Prasant’s album, but I feel it’s a very viable thing to look at for marketing it. I imagine yoga people would even get a kick out of using it for their movements. What do I know? I’ve never done yoga in my life so I’m making it up as I go along.
Being that this is my first post where I started this category of India I hope that I’ll get more submissions and recommendations. Don’t have any music like this? Get started now, go get the CD.
