Last night I took my first step into a different world of music. I know that earlier this year I went to a rave in the middle of nowhere and the music that was played there had to include a style known as Dubstep. That’s the rewind. Now the fast forward. I’m knee deep in the first attempt into creating a song in that style.
I spent a little time last night listening to examples that were given to me. Then I did a bit more research by reading up about the style and understanding what it’s composed of. So far, I’m sticking to that to see how it turns out.
Because I’m down in the midst of it, I’ll feature a Dubstep style tune here now for your expansion of music landscape.
Today I bring you Bassnectar with a release called Bass Head from Timestretch. It’s got a lot of the elements of classic Dubstep mixed with several modern ideas. What I’ve noticed on the research I’ve done is that Dubstep has evolved past it’s original intent. Meaning that it’s no longer primarily about the bass setting the tempo as it once was. No, now it’s more about the bass getting as nasty as possible.
It’s a real change of pace and I’m happy to be branching out on the exploration of different styles. Are you?
