If you’re a money person (someone who does more than use money as a means to an end) then the last week has probably been like a cardiac arrest. I’ve had friends tell me they’ve pulled their money out of their banks. One even went so far as to purchase a gun. Another bought into AIG before the bailout hoping to make a buck. These are not money people.
The originators of the money people, those that control the money, are creating a virtual or rather a monetary land grab. Or maybe as another theory might go, this could be a really insane way to have the American government get back control from the Fed. Sadly the true irony is that the government has put some of the very people responsible for creating the mess into the power seats for the oversight of the bailout. If the horror isn’t throwing future good money after gobs of horrible money of the past, I don’t know what it.
That’s pure terror for a lot of people.
I guess it all makes sense for this to culminate in October. The month associated with being scared and horror. I mean really, isn’t it scary that people would shoot their families and themselves over this? Maybe not scary, but definitely sad.
In light of the dead cat bounce today and the horror month, I’m showing off some of the darkest music I’ve put here on Single of the Day. Opeth was brought to my immediate attention by my buddy Chris Hellstrom. He’s getting heavily hooked on them, he’s into heavy shit. In turn that led to having me listen. My reaction was mixed, it was hard to get a hold of the path of the music. It’s got so many flavors going on.
I hear the guitar solos as similar to former master shredders like Marty Freidman and Jason Becker. I hear elements of Frank Zappa and Mr. Bungle. Don’t even get me started on attempting to understand the lyrics. They’re so metaphorical that the meaning gets lost. Despite all that, there’s something that kept me listening. Maybe it’s the sharp production. It’s probably the most well produced chaos I’ve probably heard.
I had to add a new category for this band as they’re apparently considered to be Death Metal. As I say here, gotta expand the horizons. Single of the Day grew a little today. Have you? Diggin the radical changes in this music? Then best pop on over to get their CD, it’s a plethora of sound.
