Slowly I’m finding that in getting more music done in a day, the later I’m going to bed and the later I’m getting up in the morning. I’m finally getting back to a full 8 hours of sleep in a night. As I’ve gotten for the past couple of nights. That rocks. In a good way.
I think one of the things that happens is that because I’m running my brain at a harder pace and pushing my voice to sing something over and over while I’m working out a melody and trying a few different variations – it’s actually pretty taxing after a while. For something that people tend to think isn’t work, it truly is.
I know last summer I worked on a track with an Australian artist who was used to producers letting her get away with something kinda close and then “fixing” it in post. I’m not one of those producers. I’m doing a disservice to an artist if I’m letting them be lazy and sing something off with the hopes of fixing it later. No. I had her sing things over and over. Made her go home and practice and come back later. When it was finally finished, she said she had never worked so hard in the studio. I said, now you know.
It’s not only music, I do this with pretty much everything I get into.
For those who pursue classical guitar to be good or great at it, it’s something you have to delve into 110%. You can’t half ass it. I ought to know, I spent several years when I first started playing guitar, learning to play classical guitar. My first teacher on the first lesson said: If you don’t learn, I don’t want to teach. That set me up to practice my ass off. It helped immensely. I’m not sure of Alex’s practice habits, but I’m sure that based on his playing that he does spend a good deal of time working on his technique. It’s quite smooth.
I’m enjoying the song here for a multitude of reasons. One the title fits for so many things that I’m tapping into outside of music. Two, the vibe gives me a relaxed feeling that I could wind down a day to. Certainly something that many of us can use in a faster paced world.
Enjoy the track and do yourself and Alex a favor. Buy it if you love it!
