Remember being little? There was always a time when there was something you didn’t want to do. The general response when you’re under 7 is, you can’t make me do it. With a little age comes wisdom. We know that we can’t be made to do something, but when given the alternate options it often comes out that the best choice is to do what’s asked.
When it comes to matters of the heart, it’s complicated by the insanity of how people react emotionally. There’s absolutely no way to predict that stuff. Going at it with logic will only result in confusion. There’s no two ways around it. The only way out of something like that is to leave. Unfortunately most people don’t do that. Who knows why.
Across the land there is a radio show that is actually geared towards that very subject. It’s from a male point of view and is geared to showing how men think. It’s the Tom Leykis Show. Tom’s weekly show attracts a lot of dispute from many women. However, he certainly does show how lots of guys think. He also believes that you can’t be made to do anything unless there’s a gun to your head. He’s smart, witty, intelligent, and very well spoken. He’s also very male. Listen at your own risk and entertainment.
As for today’s song. It’s a version of a song I wrote with Greg Watton. Greg was looking for someone that could write a good pop song around some lyrics he had. Greg had a clear idea of the music, so I agreed and set off on a path to make it happen. Thus if the guitars sound familiar, it’s because it’s me. Actually, the music all the way around is me. The only parts I didn’t play was the bass and one of the keyboard parts which was done by another friend of Greg’s, Will Champlin. Actually, the first demo version had Will singin the song.
This was never to be a song for me. It’s out of my musical realm for me as a career. As a songwriter though, I very much liked the challenge to write something like this. In fact, I’ve done a few co-writes with Greg. Sometimes Greg also asks me to create music for him in hopes that it will get picked up. Recently I wrote two tracks sorta in the vein of today’s song that got turned away. So I took them to another artist. She loved them and is working on them as a co-write. It will be like a world pop type thing. I don’t mind.
Anyway, Greg is really good at pushing the songs he’s worked on. He’s been able to get this song to several artists. Ian was the first to come back and do a version of the song. Interestingly enough all we did was supply him with the track minus Will’s vocals. As of this writing, I have no idea what ever happened to Ian. There was some buzz going and then I guess some problems around the people pushing his career.
Greg has come back to me a couple of times asking if it was ok for him to give the song to other people. I’m always like sure. Let’s get it recorded by someone who’ll take it to the top of the charts. I have no doubt Greg will be able to achieve that. I think the last time he said they’d just record their own version of the tracks. I was like sure, that’s fine. Either way, it’s still our song.
So if you’re representing an artist and want them to record this song for their album send me an e-mail and we’ll set it all up for ya.
This song is something different than from what I am used to hearing but it was alright. I think he deserves a chance to be able to come out on the main stream so that everyone should hear him. Wish him well. Thanks for the opportunity to listen.
