Earth’s axis may have shifted a little. Lots of little events going on that are a bit wack. Lets see. How about the recent earthquake that rocked a little town known as Wells Nevada. Near the border of Nevada and Utah. Then there’s the satellite that was shot down. Watch the pentagon video and listen to the military officer describing the hit and explosion. He rambles on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on about how they need a day or two to confirm the hit and if it destroyed the tank. Did I mention that he rambles on and on about the military needing to go over data and correlate it to make sure they destroyed the tank. I’m pretty sure I mentioned that he talks about needing to check their information to be sure that the tank was hit. He may have used up all 15 minutes of his fame saying the same thing in about as many different ways as you can imagine.
How could I let the Lindsey Lohan debacle go unnoticed? Pretty easily actually. See I made a new years resolution to stop clicking on links that relate to celebutants. This would include Britney, Lindsey, Paris, et al. Too bad I can’t program. Otherwise I’d write up some scripts to force my browser to remove headlines that contain their names. Who cares if Lindsey got naked. Who cares if she’s copying Marilyn Monroe. The reality is, there’s not much left to the human body that many of us haven’t seen from the outside. Sadly it’s gracing the cover of New York Magazine.
In other off kilter news, actress Hayden Panettiere has decided to add pop star to her resume. Will it come to Single of the Day. That remains to be heard.
Getting on to a couple of musicians with a real penchant for coaxing sounds out of an instrument. A new era of guitar gods could be coming. Well, probably not to the extent of that of the 60’s, 70’s or 80’s. All those era’s had musicians that were deemed gods of their instruments. The art of that got lost in the 90’s I gather. Seeing as how there got to be so many clamoring for the look at me, look at me mentality that really wasn’t prevalent before. Maybe it was but wasn’t reported. Andy McKee takes us on a little ride with Don Ross today.
Andy is apparently the most downloaded artist on YouTube. That’s a pretty amazing factoid. Ranks right up there with being the first non-signed artist on iTunes. Actually it’s an impressive thing.
The reason I’m featuring him here today is because I dig his ability to play a guitar. It’s nice to hear a fellow player take such pride in his ability to play. Actually two such players doing it together. Here’s where I could easily pass the baton to two guys that are equally deserving of something that was said about me.
In case I might not have mentioned this anecdote before, here goes. You may or may not know that I have an endorsement with Taylor Guitars (by far and away the best acoustic guitars in my opinion). One day I was visiting the factory getting some work done on my guitar. I was standing there with Taylor’s A&R master Bob Borbonus. Along came Bob Taylor. Borbonus called him over to introduce Mr. Taylor to me. A serious honor. Bob proceeds to tell Mr. Taylor that I’m one of their endorsees and described me as a chord chemist type of player. A chord chemist. In music that would mean you really know your shit and your way around the instrument. It’s kind of odd to have someone say that about your playing. It’s also heavily flattering to be introduced to a brilliant instrument builder that way.
So I will pass the moniker along to Andy McKee and Don Ross. They are two very deserving players who definitely have that chord chemist quality about them.
Have a penchant for extremely well played acoustic guitar music? Look no further. Get the to iTunes or Amazon and get this album for your iPod pronto.
