I was chatting with a friend this morning. She was complaining of a big headache after a night of drinking. I didn’t actually ask if she was drinking bourbon, but she wondered if I get headaches or hungover after a night of drinking. I mentioned “only when I forget to drink water before going to bed.” Which isn’t often. If I drank way to much I’ll add some advil to the equation before going to bed.
I gotta wonder if Suzanne Pleshette had any tips to drinking. She has passed away recently. A celebrity from a different era that is mentioned in passing in That Thing You Do. See, musical connection there. Beyond that I really don’t know much about her. Could her drink of choice been bourbon?
How many of us have had a moment of drinking too much? I’m guessing it’s a rather large percentage. I can think of moments where it felt embarrassing. I know of others whom I’ve seen in embarrassing moments thanks to alcohol. Happiness is knowing that eventually it becomes an anecdote and something to laugh at later. Provided it’s not a habitual thing nor a death as a result.
Obviously the story in the song isn’t as happy. Bourbon was written by Nicole, Kris Bergsnes and Robin Haley. Quite a unique thread in the song. I actually like how the character is taking responsibility for their actions despite their alcohol addiction. Essentially you could apply it to any addiction, but alcohol is a good one as so many have experienced it.
The voice we’re hearing is stunning. At first I was thinking why isn’t it signed. Then I realized, it is. Unfortunately Nicole is not yet on iTunes and that’s how it comes to be a Sunday’s Child edition. Nicole comes recommended by Ande Rassmussen. Oh how right a recommendation it is. I did a minimal amount of research and have seen that Nicole has been writing for other people and doing very well.
Everything about the song works for me. But that voice. My oh my, it’s so searing. It tears right into me. For that alone I would love the opportunity to sit and write a song with Nicole. I also wouldn’t mind sitting in the front row of a concert she’s performing, just to hear that voice. That’s about as high a compliment as I can give. I would think you’ll be able to get this song on CD or iTunes in the near future. Until then, send her a message at her website or at myspace.com/nicolewitt.
wow is all I can say
That’s strong
holy cow that’s a hit…and she’s smokin’…!
Nicoles honesty is brutal and her talent undeniable, and when it comes down to it thats what the people want. Bourbon is a ground breaking song and the real world commands more just like it. Salute
Very powerful song, from an awesome singer and songwriter. Way to go Nicole!
If you think this sounds good, you should hear her live!!! I was a fan from the moment I first heard her. She is definitely worthy of a week’s worth of “single of the day,” even more, IMHO.
this is an awsome cut.you should hear her sing the collin raye song that she co wrote with a.j.yuill called “fearless”!!!
I am one of the writers on this song and I’ve never been more proud of anyone than Nicole and her talent and hearing “Bourbon” on this site like I just did. I pray the whole world get’s the chance to hear it!
She is a star!!!!! She is flying like eagles over the music song writing movement in this country.
Sounds like a hit to me!
Nicole is going to be a huge star! She’s an amazing songwriter as well as a fantastic vocalist…I can’t wait till the world gets to see/hear what she’s all about. “Bourbon” is only the tip of the iceberg for all the great talent has to offer.
Great song! Great voice… definitely a hit… loved it… look forward to hearing more from her
