Life isn’t about the amount of breaths you take, it’s the slices that take your breath away. Or is it moments, or pieces, or memories? Oh whatever. As a person who likes to plan the flows to go with it’s interesting to see what other people do about their slices. One friend of mine whose music I’ve featured here at Single of the Day is one person who happens to put a lot of his slices on the web for the curious public to happen upon. He has several blogs, several myspace pages, facebook, twitter, podcasts, and more. His name: Grant Baciocco. Not too long ago I mentioned his efforts to reduce his life to 600 things at www.600things.com.
Well, now I’ve found that Grant has another thing he does called an Advent Calendar. Mind you, I’m not on the up and up as to what an Advent Calendar is. Though another friend of mine told me last night that it’s something to do with being Catholic. I don’t know how true that is, but I’m rolling with it. The interesting thing is it’s a daily physical calendar that contains gifts. There’s all kinds of rules about opening it too. Grant explains it all with his podcast. Each one is about a minute and a half or less. Pretty quick little slices off his life as he opens the calendar each day. Grant’s Advent Calendar Podcast.
Speaking of slices. Here’s a quick little ditty about slices of life. Ironically it’s called Slice of Life. I like the raw feel. Simple arrangement with homestyle instruments. The other really clever part of the arrangement is the slow build in the vocal arrangement. It reminds me of Grant and a song he wrote called Cheese Enough. Each successive chorus adds more voices to flesh out the harmonies. It’s a great way to keep the interest up in the listener’s ear.
Continuing with the praise of the vocal arrangement, I will also say the voices blend extremely well. They pair up beautifully. When a group of singers blend well it’s a wonderful thing. Chances are if you find someone whom you can sing well with, it’s a wise idea to partner up with a duo or band or something. It’s rare. Lucky for Misty River, they’ve found a great match in their group. I think the easy thing is to let the groove and voices speak for themselves.
May a vast majority of your slices in life be happy. One good way is to purchase this song. You’ll make your toes happy for tapping, you’ll make the members of Misty River happy, and it’s a great way to give a gift. Win/Win/Win.
