At any given point things can change in an instant. Sometimes they’re planned. Sometimes they’re not.
In LA this weekend, or rather starting later tonight is Carmageddon. A major freeway is closing down for the weekend for much needed updates and repairs. That isn’t stopping a bunch of events from going on, but it is giving a lot of people reason to stay home. Tonight I’m supposed to be heading out for a meeting. It’s a bit of a trip, thinking about the traffic that will occur. We’ll see.
Also, late yesterday I was presented with three opportunities to write for other people. One is a commercial. One is for a another library. One is for a label in a foreign country. It’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out. I’ve finished up tracks for a CD for my own library and I’ve handed the files off to the co-writer to mix. I’m pushing myself to finish a slew of my own songs to get ready for picking out songs for my next Artist CD.
In the meantime, I need to get back to recording so I can get the commercial off my plate and get to cranking out some tracks for the other two things – and find time for my project.
Another instant change that cropped up is Netflix. I’ve been a staunch supporter for the past couple of years. They announced a change that they think is positive. I’m not so sure. From a pure business standpoint, I get it. From a consumer standpoint, I think they’ll see some customers flip the bird and cancel service. Which means they’ll lose money. Especially since they recently raised the rates a couple of months ago. Twice in a short time frame like that – hmmmmm.
Anyway, I look at the positive. I’m working my butt off on tons of new songs and look forward the changes that it will bring.
Music wise, today I’m thinking a U2 song. Mostly because I’ve to look into exploring the sound The Edge gets. Sometimes you have to expand the horizons. While I don’t play like The Edge, I can certainly borrow concepts – we all do. I’m going with In the Name of Love. Why not? It’s a reason many of us do things right?
So go on out there and make something positive happen for a change!
