I had a call with a friend this morning to discuss a musical project that we’re in the middle of finishing. During the conversation he ended up saying something about how things can change from one moment to another – whether it’s good or bad. Meaning something can go your way, and a short while later it may not go your way, and visa versa. Very true. He followed it up by saying that some things he had gone through recently made him appreciate the ‘small’ things in life much more.
For some reason it reminds me that it’s a good thing to only boast about things that have already been done rather than the things one would eventually do. There’s an effect that is so prevalent in entertainment where people tend to talk about all the things they’re going to do rather than the things that they are doing or have recently finished. It’s a bizarre thing. In personal experience I have found that I like to talk about things I’m in the middle of doing. Often once I’ve finished them, I don’t tend to let the word out that something is done – mostly cause I’m on to the next thing. I need to work on being able to enjoy something that has been finished, spread the word then move on to the next thing.
I’m gonna roll with an old Lifehouse tune today called Hanging by a Moment. While it’s a love song about falling in love with another person, it’s a good analogy for how you can be so in tune with some one or something and how amazing it is to be in the moment. It’s very easy to get so used to things in life that many parts of it get taken for granted.
When you get the curveballs it will often help you to appreciate those little things.
