Once in a while something comes in from out of the blue. Such is the case for something for me in the past couple of days. I’ve got my studio listed on a website where once in a blue moon I’ll get a call for something. Since the site it’s listed on is primarily for video editing, I guess it’s more natural that I get the audio calls.
This was a call from a foreign country. They were working on a mix for a commercial spot and having trouble. Hence the call to me to ask about mentoring for the mix. I said sure (once I figured out it wasn’t a scam). After doing notes through email it was determined that they would be better off if I did the mix. So along came the files via the internet and away I went. Will modern wonders never cease?
The big issue was the quality of the original audio. There’s not much that can be done if the original audio is mess. However I was able to make it more uniform and get the levels fixed as needed. So far so good. Great to lend a helping hand that comes in from a client who ends up trusting you with your abilities.
I’m thinking about the fact that I was essentially cleaning up audio. Thus I’m going with a song by Depeche Mode called Clean. They had a bit of a comeback based of their earlier career. Can’t beat that. Any major act would likely love to have the longevity that can ebb and flow and comeback like it has for Depeche Mode. Right? I think so.
There’s cool delay stuff happening straight from the start. In a way it reminds me of a Pink Floyd song with that opening bass thing. Of course Depeche Mode wouldn’t be Depeche Mode without tons of electronic synth stuff. Thus all the ear candy popping up and layering in the song are exactly that cool ear candy bits.
Who’d like to bet that they spent lots of hours in the studio making sure they’re getting clean tracks for their mixes? Raise your hands.
Regardless, the one thing you can count on with them is something fun to listen to from a production standpoint.
Enjoy!
