Am I the only one that had a really productive weekend? I guess I must have felt a pang of needing to work my ass off. I put in nearly 24 hours worth of work over the weekend. Lots of it had to do with refining the tags of the music in my library and applying it to the website. Then there’s the songs I’ve been mixing for a CD of funk tunes. That was the 2nd and hopefully final round of mix tweaks. Yesterday had me finishing the tracking of a song that I’ve been producing and co-writing with a female artist from Australia. One of those songs where it was taking forever as she was constantly changing schedules. Not my favorite way to work. But in all the song is going to turn out pretty darn good. Initial response for her from her peers is that it’s the best song she’s ever helped write and best sounding as well. That’s a great thing!
I also got my new audio setup in the house where I can now listen to everything on the stereo from the airport express. That rocks. Pretty soon stereos will be available where you won’t need the airplay – even cooler. Or better yet, there are speakers that can be digitally hooked up to the airport and no stereo is needed at all. So many options.
Today it’s a continuation of finishing the tags of the database for the library. It’s a lot of music to refine. It’s slowly getting done. I’m hoping to have it completed by this Thursday.
In the meantime I’ve been asked to do the mix of two TV spots for the Virgin Islands. That’s kinda cool. Going global with the services.
Later tonight I’ll be connecting with another co-writer to hopefully finish the writing of yet another song that was started late last summer. Schedule conflicts really suck don’t they?
I need to get on with the music. I’m rolling with a song called Projection Room by percussionist Brett Deptula. I’ve been watching a series on Netflix called The Universe and for some reason this song seems to fit a vibe that I’ve been having in watching that. Very unique and interesting stuff on the Universe (imagine that). I know this is gonna end up being a very full week and thus this song is giving me a little bit of a relaxing feel before the chaos begins.
Lots of little polyrhythms happening in there. But then what can one expect from a percussionist? Exactly. You have to. There is simplicity in his polyrhythms and that might be where the soothing nature is coming from.
Enjoy and make it a great day!
