The conclusion of projects. It’s a great feeling. The re-encoding of my library. Done. I spent an additional hour yesterday going thru my library files on both computers. They’re now identical. What a great relief. I found a method that allowed me to do it via numbers and that sped up the process dramatically.
On a creative musical front, I’ll be finishing up a CD of funk songs today with my buddy Jesse Stern. The formidable bassist who has been on tour with the likes of Sly Stone and Jordan Sparks. It’s a good synergy for writing. We’ve got one last track to write and record today and it’s done. I will have to mix them but that will go pretty quick since we kinda pre-mixed them as we did them. Jesse and I have already been talking about doing another disc of high energy sports rock.
Actually last week Jesse listened to the Dubstep tracks I had done. He’s verse in that genre. He really liked both tracks, but was quick to say the same thing my agent did. That the first track sounds like old school Dubstep. The great thing is, I’m nailing the sound and vibe. So I’ll probably whip up another 8 and have a full disc of that on my hands too.
The year is coming to a finish as well. It’s been an up year. Log jams of things that had kept me at bay for the last couple of years have finally started breaking free. I’m really looking forward to 2011. I have the feeling it’s the year that a whole lot of great things are going to happen.
I was thinking about someone I felt I had made a connection with earlier this year. This song triggered it somehow. The woman in question truly has eyes like fire. They were stunning. I don’t feel like I ever told her things like that enough. But then I look at text messages in my phone and emails and I realize different. Hell, she even inspired several songs and a band idea that I have. On the phone yesterday a friend of mine that I enlisted to be part of that band idea told me he catches himself thinking about it – that’s a good sign. I will get to it in 2011.
Funny how stuff like that can be triggered by a new song you’ve never heard. While Eyes Like Fire actually took me getting past the intro to really get into the song, when I did get into it I was like yeah, the song works. I like the latin flavor of the rhythm. It’s an area of music that I need to explore more. Butch is certainly carving out a niche for himself in this style. Keep an eye on him. He seems to be on fire.
