Yesterday had me bent on a nearly full day of athletic adventure. In the morning I got my car washed and strapped the bike on back with the dog in the back seat. I met up with my buddy Russell to do a Westridge ride in the Santa Monica area. It’s a good mellow ride on the fireroad. It was also a good ride to start Dorian off with getting in shape to run with me on a bike. Not too fast. Though I know his hip isn’t in great shape, the vet says it can’t get worse. So until I can get him a new hip…
After mountain biking, to which Dorian happily ran like a champ, it was time to meet up with some other friends to play some basketball. It’s getting to be a couple of days a week to play with a cool group of guys. Such as a week and a half ago when a D-League player showed up. That proved fun for us, probably boring for him. He wasn’t even trying and still kicked our ass.
I was getting hit pretty hard yesterday on the court. A couple of the guys were playing a tad rough. At one point I went for a ball steal and ended up nearly getting my shoulder dislocated. That ended my time on the court pretty quick. Intense pain. Luckily this morning it’s only a tad tender, but not terrible.
One thing happening around here the weather is changing. It was overcast and slightly chilly. While playing basketball we were thinking it might rain. Then it actually rained hard last night. Which brings me to Martin England. He has a song called Weather’s Changing.
A cool back porch type of thing with a banjo, some dobro guitar spiced with a slide. A heavy vocal that is inspired by Johnny Cash, but not the same. The arrangement of the instruments and the vocals are really great. It’s a perfect little blend of music and voice.
The sound quality is great too. When I can hear that space and the tone of the instruments thru tiny laptop speakers, then I know it’s been recorded and mixed with quality in mind.
Pick it up, I think you’ll enjoy his flavor.
