Half the year has come to an end and half the year has begun. So far I’ve been pumping away at getting things done in the studio. Working on a contract and ironing out the kinks of it with my agent. Making sure that there is a fair deal happening and that all the t’s are crossed and the i’s are dotted.
Then it will be putting the finishing touches on another cue for an example for getting a gig for a popular game. I did most of the recording yesterday but I need to do the mix and make it a little more interesting.
Last night I spent some time hanging with an old friend. He’s been out on the road and living outside the country quite a bit for the past couple of years. So we were doing some drinking and catching up on what’s been going on. Good times at the Mexicali. The only disappointment was when I ordered a Kobe beef burrito and then the waiter came back to announce they were out of Kobe beef. Thus I shifted my order, but when the bill came they were still attempting to charge for the more expensive food. Not cool. The waiter did fix the bill, but disappointing that it had to be pointed out and he was a bit offended by it.
It’s all an illusion right? The power of motivation is all in one’s head. I was chatting with a friend who admired me for being able to get up the will power to do something. My response was, it wasn’t a matter of will power. I don’t think to myself, oh I need to get more will power. Instead, I either go do something or I don’t. I base it more off feeling the need to do it or wanting to accomplish something. It’s all an illusion as to what you want.
That brings me to a formerly great guitar player that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing live, Shawn Lane. He was insanely amazing live. It was incredible the note choices and his sound. He could play one note and make you sit on the edge of your seat, then in moment late he’d be motoring faster than anyone you’ve heard and it still sounded brilliant.
Take a moment to soak it in. Then go explore more of his catalog. You’ll be glad you did.
