Yesterday was a long but fun day in the studio and then an evening with friends playing poker.
There’s nothing like getting paid for something you love to do. It was a bit of a grueling session. I sang a whole lot of songs. Seven in all. The composer was expecting to get only a single vocal for each song, but as things happen in the studio, I opted to triple track some parts for bigger choruses and even some extra harmonies. He was extremely happy with the result.
The engineer was happy because the recording went really fast. At one point he even mentioned that he wished he knew me while working on a major motion picture soundtrack for some particular vocals. I can bet that I’ll be getting that call in the future now that he knows some of what I’m capable of.
My agent Gloria also got first hand experience with the skills as well. She was happy too. All around it was fun.
Afterwards I was off to Santa Monica to meet up with some friends to play some poker. My buddy Matt tends to have a group of friends over to his place. We drink a few drinks, eat some good eats and then chat and play.
It’s the fun and the content that you’re hearing Lady GaGa right now. I’m sure I’ve got people thinking, what the fuck Jody?!? Why her. Well, I’ve got a thing for songs that are well written and produced. While I’m not a huge fan, I can say, she’s certainly hit a nerve. The kind of nerve that fills the gap of say a Madonna. However, she has a propensity for hooky songs. That’s a great thing.
I guess that might be weird after reading/hearing that I enjoyed the documentary movie on the band RUSH – which by the way, I highly recommend you go see. RUSH is in an entirely different realm where it’s not so much about the look of the band but rather their musicianship. Does Lady GaGa have the same musicianship comparatively? Uh, no. But I can appreciate the difficulty of writing something simple that works and isn’t extremely mundane. It’s not as easy as it sounds. RUSH on the other hand, writes complex music. Which do I relate to better? RUSH, mostly because I find it easier to be complex and hard. Ironic isn’t it?
Have a great weekend.
