I’ve been working for a few weeks on a CD that I’m producing for another artist. I’m nearing the finish line of the first round of mixing on 10 tunes. I’m into song number seven. By tonight I should have song eight done as well. I should have the entire first round comp’d and mixed by tomorrow afternoon. Once that’s done it’s a matter of the artist spending a little time with the mixes and determining if there are any further changes needed before it hits the mastering stage.
Home base is when the songs are mastered and out of my hands.
It feels good to be getting a project done. Especially when I have another one lined up and coming my way. All the while I’m chatting with people about getting more music into the hands of those that need it from a licensing standpoint.
In a way I feel like I’m finally swinging a ballpeen hammer and it’s making some connections with what it’s hitting. That’s a plus. Which leads me to Chris Whitley. He has the definitive tune on the Ballpeen Hammer. A real raw and smacking tune. It’s got a vibe that I think really sells the song. A single voice and a single guitar in a room. It smokes without a ton of effects and I really dig that. Don’t you?
