It’s been an interesting week thus far.
Last night I received a little award from a Los Angeles songwriter network called SongNet for my song Hero Unexpected. It was a little unexpected. Which makes it more fun that way.
This morning came with an email stating that a song I had written with a friend a couple of weeks ago for Universal has already been released. That was damn fast. Gotta love that. I’m even more stoked as beyond the songwriting and performing on the song, I’m also the listed producer and mixer. Woo Hoo.
To add to that I have an artist that is interested in having me write or co-write and produce some songs for him. That’s a nice thing to hear.
Speaking of cool pop songs. I also came across this tune by Shawn Fisher this morning. It’s called Open Your Eyes. I’m betting if you’re a guy you’ve met a girl like the one Shawn is singing about here. I know I’ve met her several times over. I like how the song kicks right in off of a muted acoustic guitar part then shifts into another more airy part. If there is a formula that makes a pop song rock there is no doubt that Shawn found it.
The requisite build of the track adding part after part to help support the song as it goes along. The thing I really dig about Shawn is his voice. It’s got a nice rough grit to it as he opens up on higher notes. It’s rare that I find a male voice that I could listen to a lot but Shawn has that voice. It would be cool to see what he is like when he performs live.
