Yesterday was my first excursion into the world of the sport of climbing. Of course while growing up I climbed things, but never anything like a rock face. Being in Utah in the dead of winter there’s not a lot of comfortable outdoor rock climbing. Which meant that my family, friends, and I went to an indoor climbing gym. The biggest fear in attempting this is what it would do to my hands. They’re very important to how I can make my living and I don’t like to stress them out much due to guitar playing.
Throwing caution to wind.
My first attempt was on the easiest route on the wall. I actually made it to the top. That was actually pretty fun. Over the course of a couple of hours I ended up moving down the wall a little bit trying slightly harder routes. I made it up to the top several times. Eventually my forearms started taking such a beating that I had to stop. Nothing like having my arms begin to feel useless.
Fortunately less than a couple of hours later they started to feel better and not feel completely wasted.
Because of the aggressive nature of the idea of rock climbing I’m feeling it would good to feature a harder edged tune by Korn. They have a tune called Wake Up coincidentally enough. Rolling guitar riffs and a loud nature overall leads to a vibe that would describe how I felt inside with the climbing. I can feel it and relate with it. How about you?
