Every so often things go un-according to plan. Today is such a day. A writing session that I had got cancelled due to the co-writer coming down with a fever. Drag. Actually there’s a lot of people I know who have recently fell ill. Some say fever, some have congestion, one friend had a doctor tell him it could possibly be swine flu (turned out it wasn’t). Crazy. I feel fortunate to be in good health when so many others appear to be under the weather.
The change of the day turned out to be lunch with another friend, who isn’t under the weather. Though I got slighted for the fact that I was late due to technical reasons with studio stuff. He then remarked, you’re always late. Which was odd to hear because generally I’m always early. Hmmm… But it was true in the sense of when we tend to get lunch, I’m often running behind thanks to computer or device crap.
I have to get to cutting up audio for my library. So on to the song.
An artist you’re not likely familiar with unless you’ve been reading a lot of Single of the Day. Jason Falkner. He’s been a member of a band that I really loved. That is how I became aware of him. I’ve even seen him open for Alanis Morrisette. Though I’m a fan of his recordings, I was actually a bit deflated by his solo performance in front of the crowd. It felt like it was thrown together and not well cared for from his performance. I’d like to see him with a whole band.
Maybe the reason he played solo is because he is the performer on all the instruments you’re hearing right now (provided you’re reading this at the website). He’s a very talented multi-instrumentalist. Much like a former fellow band member of his – Jon Brion.
I really like Jason’s sense of melody. I like his sense of musical adventure. I like his chordal and rhythmic structures. I’m also very aware that because he is so music in the sense of exploring music, that most non musicians probably can’t relate. Which is a sad thing. But now you’re aware of him and I would hope that you’re willing to pick him up and explore more of his music.
