Ever notice how your demeanor will change based on an impending action or attitude? Have you ever seen it in someone else? I have experienced it in both cases.
Of course I’ve seen it in my past. But I’ve also been privy to both in the past week on several occasions. One is with myself. I’m getting bombarded by a co-writer about a song we wrote that I’m not super keen on and they feel it’s a huge hit. They’re reaching out to people they claim they know when they really don’t. In the process they are throwing my name around and that makes me a little uneasy.
On the flip side I went to see a friend perform a burlesque show last night. After the show a group of us went out to chat and grub at Canters. At the end we all parted ways and were shaking hands and giving hugs. The friend in particular was giving bear hugs to people that were long time aquaintances. For me it was a sideways dig in with the shoulder thing. I can’t imagine it’s a height thing. Who knows. I have another friend who is fairly tall. She is so used to hugging people shorter than she is that when she hugs me she still acts like I’m shorter and hugs with a hunch at me.
That’s the funny thing about music. It can can a mood and a demeanor. No wonder we get such a kick out of having music input lives. I wonder how much the perceived attitude of music and making use of it without paying would change if people were forced to go thru a day with none? Think about that for a second.
Imagine your day with absolutely no music. No Ringtone. No sound on your morning tv. No music in your car or on your radio. No music on your iPod or phone. No music on favorite evening show. No music in your movie. No music at the restaurant you’re eating at.
I gaurantee you wouldn’t enjoy it for long. And yet there are a lot of people who feel it should be free. That’s a strange demeanor or attitude to have.
Here’s a band with some strange attitude in their music: Loomis & the Lust. Try today’s song on for size, Bright Red Chords. I’m redoing it because I’m thinking about the attitude that’s in there. Plus look at all the odd stuff in the video. Not to mention it’s catchy. It’s rare for me to revisit something so soon, but I had to. Get it under your skin and enjoy the place you’re in.
