We all have moments in life where we don’t have a definitive answer. Often it can make us feel stupid. The same can happen when writing a song. There are times when what you’re hearing in your head don’t exactly match once it’s heard physically and then doesn’t work. Sometimes it’s a simple fix, sometimes it may not fix.

I had such a moment today. Finishing up a co-write I came to the conclusion the way the song was being done didn’t work. The co-writer on the other hand loved it. I guess that’s just what happens sometimes. Additionally I’m not overly interested in writing with that person again. I ended up doing too much of the work for too little return. It’s not cool when you’re working on a song and the co-writer decides to pull out a magazine and start collecting information unrelated.

My choice today isn’t about some love thing that wasn’t resolved. No, instead I was going for the fact that I sometimes write stuff down in a letter form and then put it away. It’s a great way to get the feelings out and put away. Alanis has taken this concept and run with it a few steps further. One in writing down these thoughts for exes in her life. Two in putting it to music. Three in releasing it to the public.

The song has a non standard form. The form fits into each little retrospect on a boyfriend. A very cool concept and very freeing. I’m betting it was cathartic. Is it cathartic for you?

    Go get it now!
