One thing that interests me is how others view things, especially how they view me. There’s a line in a song that I really like that says: “I wonder how I look inside your mind.” While that line refers to a guy wondering how a girl views him from a physical standpoint, I’m throwing a twist on it in that I wonder how I’m perceived inside your mind – that is what I’m getting at.
For some reason yesterday was a day full of that. I got in the car and drove thru the hills of Southern CA. Up thru the windy passes of Mullholland and then along Encinal Canyon. I’ve never been thru there, so that was fun. Took some fun pictures. I ended up having lunch with a friend in Malibu and the conversation turned to things I ought to consider doing. At which point I started to question why it would be a good idea to do certain things. The answer apparently is that I’m an interesting figure to watch and listen to.
I got home and chilled out for a bit when I got a text from another friend wanting to catch a late flick. That resulted in a dinner with that friend and seeing Surrogates. Conversation at dinner was about a book idea we have been tossing around, and that led to again, how people perceive what I’m like as fodder for the book. Surrogates as a movie was fun, but not over the top amazing. I would liken it to I Robot taken a step further.
Speaking of movies, if I hadn’t mentioned it a week or so ago. I saw Law Abiding Citizen. I was able to catch an early pre-screen of it and it was intense! Go see that when it comes out.
On to the music…
I Thought I Knew Love from Cupéro. An artist that is drawing comparisons to another artist I have featured here on Single of the Day (Marian Call). I’m not sure I can hear that comparison. However, she does list some other artists and the only one I can think of that is relatively close is Shakira. Not based on the music, but based on the tone of her voice. Cupéro has a really deep and slightly dark tone to her voice that is quite different from many female singers. That’s a bit of a catch 22. Because it’s so different it will likely make it a bit difficult to breakthrough.
I like what she’s got going on. That’s about as simple and complex as I want to get with it.
Enjoy it! Go get it!
