I’m not sure if I understood something I saw the other day while waiting in queue at the grocery store. At the stores here in LA, and probably other places around the world, they have mini flat screen monitors that place advertisements and such (usually I tune that crap out) but this time I caught a little snippet that stated that 150 countries around the world celebrate Labor Day today. Interesting factoid if it’s correct.
As a musician, I’m pretty sure that most holidays mean nada in terms of work. People always seem to want music, live music at lots of events.
Even though I’m not performing today, I am getting emails about touring possibilities and I’m in the studio mixing a song. So until I’m hearing about a BBQ to hit, I’m working anyway.
I have started thinking that I’ll take a break on Sundays when it comes to the blog. Not for religious reasons and I do still get music submitted that isn’t on iTunes and such, so I may still do the occasional post on Sundays, but I’m attempting to regain some control and take a normal break during the week. I guess I ought to make that same term for holidays, and yet I’m writing it for today anyway.
As I’m thinking about the music a couple old school military planes are flying over head for the air show that happens in the next city over. Ah, the joy of seeing things flying in the air.
I know that today’s pick isn’t based on the story in the lyrics, but rather on the title. People need to take a moment to slow down once in a while. The song itself is about two people making love, but I’m looking more at the fact that we tend to over work and over stimulate ourselves to the point of burnout.
Ju-Taun claims a John Mayer influence, but I don’t really hear that. No, I’m more inclined to say it’s a standard R & B type of sound, like a combo of old school 70’s falsetto ala the Bee Gees and maybe some modern Usher or Ne Yo type of thing. At least that’s what I’m hearing.
Enjoy your Labor Day. Hopefully you’re not working but rather enjoying a group of friends, some food and some drink.
