I case you were wondering, I decided not to run a Saturday and Sunday post over this last weekend as a tribute to Marcel.
What a weekend it was though. Friday night I went to a charity event to hang with my PR person Nina. It was held in Downtown Los Angeles and was a comedy thing for Homeless not Toothless. The name of the organization is a tad funny in and of itself, but the idea behind it is a good one. I saw some great comedy by some famous peeps at the Downtown Comedy Club.
The aftermixer thing was fun too. I met some cool people. At one point I was chatting with a friend of Nina’s when I was called over to meet someone else. That person asked some funny things. At one point asked if the girl I was standing next to was my girlfriend. To which we both looked at each other and said no. Then asked if I was single. Yes. Gay. I like women. Then asked her if she was single. Yes. Asked if she was gay. No. Then told us we looked like we’d make a great couple. Which made us laugh.
Saturday I found myself installing new recording software in my studio. I had to get it ready for a recording session for vocals that night. I finally got around to recording vocals on one of my new tunes. After the recording session Saturday night I was texted about a party in Glendale. I bought my vocal engineer, Jesse Stern, dinner after driving all over the place at midnight on a Saturday night trying to find a place open for dinner. Hard to believe that in Los Angeles on a Saturday night round midnight that it’s hard to find a place open. It’s fucking Los Angeles.
I headed out to Glendale to catch the party and of course the time I arrive sees several officers casing the place debating on shutting the party down. Live music, warehouse district, lots of people, yeah, the cops came and left and the party continued.
Sunday I found myself tearing apart a sprinkler system. The good thing is, I got it working. That’s all I want to say about that.
Of course the real fun of the weekend was game night. This was the best one yet. Largest crowd. Loudest laughs and a game that wasn’t so popular in previous game nights suddenly became the game of choice. Apples to Apples. Of course I’ve now been roped into purchasing a new game every month for game night. So that we can have way more choices. Balderdash was also played last night and now I’ve had two answers that have been so funny that people have been crying from laughing so hard, it even netted me money. Seems when I hit an extremely funny answer in Balderdash, I get money from fellow players. I hit it on the first round of the night. The humor continued all night. It was a blast.
Because of all the weekend fun I think it’s a good idea to open up the week with a upbeat instrumental known as Weekend Overdrive. That’s essentially what my weekend felt like and big blur of overdriven fun. Steve has certainly summed up the vibe of a weekend pushed to a limit. A constant movement zipping around the guitar neck at breakneck speeds. Double bass pedaled drums, and a bass that is every bit as slammin as Steve’s guitar lines.
Steve is one of those guitarists that is highly influential to a large amount of other guitarists. He has amazing speed and accuracy in his picking and playing. It’s super precise. Plus he’s got cool scalar ideas. Having one is great, having both is unfair to many other players. I highly recommend exploring Steve’s entire CDs. There’s a lot of great material there.
Go forth and have a great week.
