I realize it’s much too late to be doing a spring clean. I think the 4th of July is most likely the American kickoff of the summer season if it’s not sooner. However, I’m taking a moment on my lappy this morning looking at files and applications that I don’t use or haven’t made use of in several years. I’m taking the data and transferring it into stuff I do use.
What prompted this? Well I used to use an application to sync my Palm to my Mac. Since I’ve switched over to the iPhone I’m no longer in need of that application. I don’t need to most of the data as it’s been syncing that information with my Address Book and Calendars already. But it did have a great way to take notes and organize them on the Palm which the iPhone still does not really have. I copied all those memo’s/notes over to my machine and uninstalled the application.
That got me to looking around my machine and seeing what other applications I never use or have updated and for some reason have the old version for. Lots of pref files and stuff to unload. While I won’t really notice the difference I think it’s good for the peace of mind.
It’s a good thing for me to clean out stuff and get it organized once in a while. I usually like to do a fresh install of a system when there is a new update. I know that Apple has Snow Leopard coming soon. I’m not sure if it will allow for a clean install of the system, but I’m certainly going to jump on it when it comes out.
The same holds true for music as you’re working on ideas. It’s a good idea once you have ideas stockpiled which happens to me a lot as of late. I used to work on one song at a time, which made it easy to work it all the way thru and get it done in a hurry. Once I started taking on lots of co-writers and more musical jobs it meant I had to allot time to ideas and start stockpiling them. Not my favorite thing to do. Especially since I’ve been piling up over 50 songs of my own in the past year.
I’ve started sifting thru those ideas (of which most of the music is done) and started putting my brain back around lyric ideas to go with each one. In the process I’ll be thinking about the flow of the music I’ve put together. There’s a few already that I can hear where I want to change it musically speaking. By the time I’m done with ’em there will likely be several that won’t make the grade of being more than something I wrote and won’t release. Though I’m pretty sure 80% or more of them are very much going to go prime time.
I wonder if an artist like Trina Elle does something like this? I actually don’t know if she writes her tracks. It’s still a viable question if she does though. Trina came to my attention this morning actually and I’ve been listening to her songs as I’ve been doing my spring clean. She’s got a very pop dance kinda vibe to me. Though it’s also got a sprinkle of RnB, as much as a good looking girl from Canada can have. That’s not a bad thing.
Tight production and good vocals are a powerful combination. There’s not much more that can be said as the music is speaking for itself. I’m a sucker for cool production and well mixed tunes with fun melodies. Trina got that.
Go get her! Well, get her music. A girl this good looking is likely to already be taken.
