This past week has had an unusual amount of cloudy days in Los Angeles. I’ve heard it termed June Gloom. Personally I found it to be quite nice as a change of pace from the norm of only sun. Today though we were back to the norm of sunshine. It was a bit odd to wake up to that much sun again. I kinda liked having a slightly darker morning for a while.
This weekend ended up being pretty mellow from a being out and doing something standpoint. I guess I needed a break from my week where I was out pretty much every night doing something with some function or someone. Instead I spent it with Dorian the dog and also learning songs.
I’ve got a longish show this coming thursday and it will be good to have the material together enough to make it seem like I’ve been playing the songs for a long time. I’m not worried about my tunes. But more about the cover songs I’ve chosen and being able to make them mine in a short period of time. Which means I’ll need to spend most of my time practicing this week. Outside of finishing the film trailer, doing a hand modeling thing, and some other things that are booked.
As I’ve heard and stated here before, when it rains it pours. Which leads me into a song that was sent my way by a Dave Martin. He co-wrote the ditty you’re listening to now with a Mila Mason. They got a guy named Jason Grainger to sing it. It’s a sly tune. It doesn’t come right out and beat you over the head. I had to listen to it a couple of times. Once I did that I ended up understanding the flow a bit more and catching the vibe of the song.
I guess it’s more like one of my songs. It’s good on the surface but the more you listen, the more layers you start to hear and the more it grows into your brain. The more it grows the better it gets. I really like when a song can do that. That’s the sign of a really darn good song.
I’m not sure where Dave is planning on taking the song, but I can certainly envision a bigger artist taking it and running with it. If not, they should.
