It’s an age old question for a game show. You get a choice of a great prize or absolutely nothing behind one of several doors. What is bizarre is when you’re trying to do business with someone and they want you to forget the bullshit they created in the past. So they present the situation of supposed choice which is really more like, if you can’t forget my untrustworthiness, then leave. Which is so weird. How can one build an element of trust if they can’t actually provide the necessary actions to create it.
Such was a situation presented to me by someone I cannot trust. Yet they want me to trust that they will fix what they screwed up in the past by trying something new. All I could do was sit there and not laugh in their face. It’s laughable. The fact that I still entertain this person is only due to one thing. They owe me money. Enough that it means I need to entertain them. But so much that there will not be another cent that comes from me to go towards any idea they cook up.
Thus, I’d like door #3. The door where I get my money back and they do exactly what they were supposed to do before all this mess happened. Too bad that’s not one of the options I’m being granted.
Today I’d like to showcase a version of my song Hero Unexpected that was created by someone who does what they say they’re gonna do. Chris ‘Von Pimpenstein’ Carter, producer, remixer extraordinaire. In fact, I believe he was the first person I approached about doing remixes for Hero Unexpected. I met him via a networking opportunity in Los Angeles. He’s kinda hard to miss. He stands somewhere around 6’6″. Which puts him a few inches taller than me. The adage of birds of feather flock together might actually work for height I think.
Chris is a really laid back individual who does great work and works hard. He also knows how to have fun as well. He and his wife are fairly regular at my game nights. So it’s a win/win all the way around. Good business and building a good friendship too.
Hearing Chris’s rendition of Hero Unexpected threw me for a loop. I didn’t know what to expect. Essentially I think the only thing he used was my vocal. However, even my vocal went under his knife. The key of song was changed, the style is drastically different and the tempo is also entirely new. It’s a completely different song than my original. I really enjoy what he did. It’s so different and yet it still works for me.
I wanted something different and he didn’t disappoint.
What I learned from this remix is that the song itself holds up extremely well across different styles. I’m not sure how many songs can do that, but I believe this one can.
Have you got your Hero fix? Know someone that is a hero? Get this song and then by it for them as a gift. In fact, collect all the different versions (legally of course). Be the hero you want other people to be for you.
p.s. if you’re in Hollywood tonight, come see my play Hero Unexpected for the first time publicly at the Viper Room. Be there!
