Some of the most interesting moments in life occur when you least expect it. That’s not to say that making plans to do something is an unwise move, but when you leave yourself open to doing stuff, it’s fun – most of the time. Last night was another case of doing something last minute for me. I was hanging out seeing some live music and eating dinner with a friend who had to get up early in the morning. As I was back at home I got a text asking me to show up for a jam at a condo much like a week or so ago. It’s nice when your presence is requested.
I hopped in the car with a guitar and off I went around midnight to go hang with some friends to sit, play music and drink a little. There’s something comforting in getting around people who are there to listen and have a good time – where it does matter if you louse something up. I sometimes wonder why it is that I did not learn more cover songs. I’ve spent so much time writing and co-writing that I’ve never really learned the songs of others. When I do, it tends to be songs that are obscure. I need to change that.
The good thing is, I’m able to pick up on chords really quick, so I’m playing along. I suppose it would be wise to catalog tunes my friends know and start inputting them into my brain.
Either way, it’s fun, I enjoy it, and it doesn’t slay me to stay up all night to do such things with a great group of people.
I was a little tired upon waking up this morning. However I think I’ve recovered enough to be in good shape for today’s video interview shoot. Yes, we ‘rockstars’ work too many hours. It’s a damn good thing that I love music as much as I do. The fun of it today is creating more content to help push Hero Unexpected. I will certainly let it out of the bag when everything comes into place.
With that I’ll leave ya with my pick today. It’s a song that would very much fit in with the jams I was mentioning. In fact the addition of the harmonica reminds me of Beau, one of the cats that hangs out with us. He’s more of a film maker, but he’s a good guitar player as well. He does a great rendition of a Kings of Leon song. Back to Robbie though.
I like the freewheeling nature that Robbie is giving off. He’s that fearless vibe going on with his approach to the song as it’s presented. I envision this is the way one would get a career off the ground at a the university or college campus where he calls home. It’s that kind of nurturing environment that can allow a musician to hone the craft until they get it right and then really take off. Keep an eye on Robbie.
