I was out and about all day yesterday. One of those long days where you have too many things scheduled to do in a day and one or two things end up not getting done or get rescheduled. However there was some time spent in my car and chatting on the phone (yes with a headset) while driving. I have a friend who has become a good sounding board about things going on and we were chatting about some things. One of those things happened to be about women.
My friend likes to provide her opinion on matters of the female kind. I guess it’s not so bad considering she’s one of them. She’s particularly interesting because she can go on about it and I find it fascinating. Anyway the subject of someone in my life came up and the concept carried over into a comparison to toxicity or even poison. Not in a literal sense but in a sense that the person themselves is dealing with some heavy stuff and is leaning a little to hard on me for stability and support. That began to turn the conversation into a question of a what if type of scenario.
Without going into all the messy details it’s certainly something that I have to take into consideration. The one thing that I can’t fathom about my own journey thru it is how interested I am in the psyche of it. Usually I wouldn’t take the trip that I’m going thru on it.
Of course my day wasn’t all about that call, or at least that aspect of that call. I did have a great meeting about some stuff to be done tomorrow. I have a video shoot for some interview things, as well as a press release coming up next week. All good stuff. It’s a nice little ride that is shaping up. I’m excited to see and hear the anticipation building around something I created. Even more fun is another video that will get shot next week as well that relates to part of the creation of the song in question.
I also got to see part of the working environment of a musician that worked with Nine Inch Nails for the past several years. Being a bit of a tech and gear head I was certainly interested in the aspect of how they pull off their productions. I know that I’m working towards something big like that and it’s nice to know that technology is finally starting to get to a point where some very interesting things can be achieved with a laptop.
In light of the opening of this post, I remembered a song by an artist that I dig. Chris Whitley has what is probably the most appropriately titled songs for those of us who run into those of the female persuasion who can be trouble. Right from the get go you have a slick little bluesy riff on a steel guitar that sets up that blues tone that Chris brought to his music. The drums kick in with a simple but very effective groove that adds to the ease of song. The kind of ease that is very much like how we can get hooked on someone without realizing it.
Then comes the smokey vocal that is signature Chris Whitley. Putting a southern fried twang on a melody that just melts its way right into your brain. The lyrics end up telling a very sly story about what one will do despite the warning signs.
Who’s your poison?
