The famous phrase used when people don’t want to make a decision on something – Let’s play it by ear. It sucks when you make a plan to do something, then someone else decides to change it up and say that phrase. That’s a bit of my day. I had planned to be doing one thing before game night tonight, and now, I’ll be doing something else. So what’s on the agenda for the day? Another bike ride. A longer one.
In music playing it by ear has a completely different meaning. It usually means someone has created or learned a piece of music without any written or shown help. That they heard the music and knew what to do. For those of us that have the ability to ‘hear’ what we’re doing it’s not a big deal. To people that claim to be tone deaf or who have trouble listening to their inner ear, it appears to be a mystery as to how we can do it. As a musician that can hear things in such ways, I guess I don’t understand how others can’t.
Played anything by ear recently? In any sense of the phrase?
Today’s choice gives me a sense that that is how they do their music. By playing by ear. It’s got an eclectic vibe that feels quite experimental. Each track is pretty different from another, though it all has a similar vibe, which means their musical DNA is pretty intact with it.
This particular track has a cool slow bouncy vibe. It gives a good impression of someone sitting indoors waiting for rain. Doncha think?
The CD is available on CD Baby, however the tracks are not on the digital services yet. Go get it today.
