There’s nothing more unbecoming than having a sleep pattern go off track. For the past couple of nights I’ve woken up in the middle of my sleep with very little reason only to have a bit of a hard time getting back to sleep. I love my sleep, so it sucks when I don’t get it, or at least a full shot of it. I did what I could last night to ignore it, whereas the night before I got up in bed. I think I was able to get a bit more tonight than previously.
Enough about the sleep. I finished a mix last night then decided to go meet some friends at the Baked Potato where the venue was having a fundraiser for John Ziegler. A guitarist who’s house recently burned down. I can’t imagine how unfun that would be. It was good to get out. I ran into several people I haven’t seen in a while so it was also a little bit like a catchup session. Of course part of the reason to go is to catch great players playing music. Of which there were quite a few.
Actually I know a very little bit what it’s like to have a house burn (not fully down but definitely burn). Around the age of 5 the house my parents lived in was damaged by fire when a tree next to the house was struck by lightning, caught on fire, broke and hit the house. Or at least that’s how I remember it. I remember being woken up in the middle of the night and being shuffled to a neighbors house while the firemen worked on putting out the fire.
Mentioning lightning, that leads to rain and I can think of several instances where I’ve been caught in rain unprepared or rather off guard. Sometimes it’s cool, sometimes it’s not. This leads me to today’s pick of Caught in the Rain by Revis. A band that adds it’s lore to one of the common stories in the music industry. They released one album and then disbanded a couple of years ago. I actually don’t know much about them. I’m guessing that this is their biggest song because I picked it up on a soundtrack.
I like the little noise in the intro, the guitars kicking in (and there’s a lot of them) then the drums and bass thump in. Once the vocal kicks in you can hear a vocal that is reminiscent of another band that was huge. What I dig about this vocal is the harmony that is supplanted in little parts in there. They obviously spent a lot of time in the studio getting those right and making sure the timing was nice and tight. There are a lot of ups and downs in the song. Lots of parts added and subtracted it’s a veritable palate of ear candy.
Of course I’m sure the band members would still be happy to have to you pick up their album. So do it!
