Yesterday was another long day of music for me. It started off with me shipping a guitar back to the factory for some repairs and upgrades. It almost sounds like guitars are becoming computers or something – repairs and upgrades. It should arrive in their hands today actually. After the shipping it was lunch with Rory Partin and his wife. They came out from Nashville to look for producers and co-writers for his next CD. I met him thru my rep at SESAC, James Leach. We spent some time chatting. One of the funniest moments came near the very beginning where Rory’s wife turned to me and said, you know I like you, I like your vibe, nice and laid back.
We spent the afternoon working up a song. We’ve got the inklings of the style, the workings of the chorus, a bit of a story line, and a semblance of the chords for the verses. We played thru it a bit and then the Partin’s had to move on to another meeting in the late afternoon. What a whirlwind of a session they’re having. Rory and I will likely meet back up on saturday to see about finishing the song.
I spent a little time working on a new song for myself after that. I have the main layout of the song recorded for the demo. I have the chorus melody laid down. I worked on the 1st verse for a bit, making sure the words made sense and the melody was going the way I wanted. I finally put the vocal on the demo for the first verse. At that point it was time for dinner.
Threw a little food down my throat and then it was off to the Kibitz room. Tuesday night jam session. There were streamers and such hanging around the room and some birthday hats when I got there. There wasn’t any music so I was a little confused. Turns out it was Rami’s birthday, so things were getting off to a late start. Rami came up, I wished him happy birthday and bam, we’re on stage getting the night kicked off with some jams. It was fun. Much more so this time than any of the times I’ve been there recently. The crowd was fun, the music was more relaxed and people were having a great time.
There was one surprise last night. Chrissy Hyndes showed up. The infamous lead singer of The Pretenders. Which is why I decided to roll with a clip today from one her more famous songs. Chances are you’ve heard this song before. If not, you should have. It was fun to watch being done last night at the jam. People going nuts singing along and Chrissy getting down on stage with everyone around her. It’s a classic song straight out of the 80’s. If you don’t have it, time to explore some of the past and get it.
