T’was the day before Christmas and all ’round the house were creatures waiting…
I learned that FedEx does not guarantee their service anymore. Thus if you pay out the nose for a priority overnight package that is supposed to reach a destination by a certain time, you’re shit out of luck – they don’t give any refunds or discounts. What was their slogan? Oh yeah, when it absolutely positively has to be there overnight. Now it’s apparently, the world on time.
My question is, on what time? Because they certainly don’t adhere to their guaranteed time.
There were still a couple of hours of daytime left when my important package did arrive. Fortunately I was able to get thru traffic in Park City (which hands down now has to be worse than Los Angeles) to make a deposit, then get over to the DMV to get a replacement license before it closed. Whew. I made it by the skin of my teeth. I also got a call from a friend who owns a music store. Said they were listening to my Christmas albums and people where asking where to get it. How’s that for a great present?
Last night our clan (mom, sis, and her boyfriend) went to a party in Park Meadows. It took place at a house that is amazing. It’s huge, it’s spacious, it was insanely cool. Apparently the husband is a top set designer for the film industry. Wild stuff. Lots of nice people.
While there I spotted a glass vase full of limes which prompted me to make a cocktail that seems to be rare everywhere I go. A Capi Roska. At least I think that’s how it’s spelled. It’s a simple drink, but it takes time to make. What’s in it you ask? Two limes cut and muddled in a glass. Three tablespoons of sugar, a little ice and the rest is vodka. Stir it up and voila, you’ve got a drink that goes down really easy, and will hit you really hard. Good thing I wasn’t driving.
Of course, in the process of the party and making it, I was getting asked about the drink, where I grew up, what I’m doing now, etc… Then came the drink orders. I probably ended up making about 10 of them. Be careful of the tasty drinks you make. You always get asked to make them for someone else, and so on, and so on.
I got so busy chatting and drinking, that my mom drove the rest of the clan home and left me there. Fortunately I befriended a pretty girl who now resides in the Pasadena area, but was home to visit her parents who live in Park City. They were kind enough to give me a ride home.
I ended up rounding out the evening with a snap shot of a movie before trailing off to never never land. Which leaves me with today’s choice as it’s a song that I decided to cover because of the movie I saw it in. All I Want For Christmas. Mind you, I figured I could tackle the song. I have no delusions about being able to sing as well as Mariah. Oh no. In fact, I have to hand it to my backing singer Dannielle Gaha who saved my ass on the song.
What dazzles me about my rendition is when people come to me saying they like my version better than Mariah’s. That’s a bit shocking as I don’t have anywhere near the vocal capabilities of her. She’s phenomenal, there is no doubt. Maybe it’s because mine is a bit more rocked out. I don’t know. It’s definitely got a different intro and outro. I even cut a verse. 30 songs in a short fashion wore out my voice, had to make choices.
Either way, I’m sure that you must have a special person in your life that you would want for Christmas. It could be someone you’re already dating, or someone you’d like to be dating. Whichever it is, I certainly hope that you get your wish tomorrow morning. Let me know, it would certainly make my day to know if someone gets their wish to come true.
