It must be that time of year… A common thing for people to say. What prompts me to type that? Well, I hear people say it must be that time of year when people get a cold or flu. A couple of weeks ago a friend had bronchitis. On tuesday I was around several people that were obviously fighting colds and instead of taking much needed rest and preventing the cold from spreading to others they opted to work and be social. Another friend was sick with a cold as well and I can remember coming home from that visit with them and I could feel something going on.
I’m a strong advocate of home remedy stuff and natural healing in terms of not wanting the AMA to force the concept that only their synthetic drugs are capable of doing good things for the body. It’s ignorant. It’s why I’m all for things like Ozone Therapy and even something I’ve come across that has been around for a while. Immediately after contact the other day I came home to steam with a combo of Thyme Oil, Cinnamon Oil, and Clove Oil. Then I did my stint in an Ozone sauna. I usually do this as a preventative measure.
This week though I had to step it up as the amount of contact I’ve been getting is elevated. Yesterday I got a tinge of a head cold. I was able to keep my nose open with the oils and steaming them. I was a little run down yesterday, which is why I spent some time resting. This morning, I’m feeling much better less stuffy in the head and having more energy. I’m not 100% yet, but I’m at least 96%. I know full well if I didn’t and don’t do more of the oils and ozone I probably would have been hit hard by a cold. Bad timing right now considering I’ve got some meetings coming up next week. Additionally I have some things I have to be social for. Thus I need to not be contagious and feeling well.
Friends of mine probably think I’m a nutcase because I really harp about these things when I find that they work. I actually like having the ability to breathe. Most people do. I know of at least one friend who took my advice and remarked that it did make some difference with the oils, but then they were already full blown in a cold.
Breathing is what brings me to today’s choice. Fear Zero hails out of Canada. What I dig about the song is the upbeat nature it has. I also really dig the thickness of the guitar part. That main opening riff is huge and reminds me of a song by Collective Soul that had a similar guitar harmony style to it with the layering. Thick and huge with octane movement. Well done. Something I might like to incorporate into a song I’m mixing today, may have to have a chat with the co-writer to see if the additional layers would work on our tune.
The bass and drums are also nice and solid and lay down a cool rock law that holds the song together. Then the vocals kick in and it all adds up to a very well produced track that supports a really kickin song. Lyrically I can relate to the concept where life can get rough. Rather fitting for what a lot of people are going thru right now in terms of finance – if the media is correct. It also works if your fighting a cold, flu or some other illness.
I really think that I’m learning it’s best to sit back on certain things in life and let dust settle before I react to something. Especially when it comes to matters of business. As I stated a couple of weeks ago, I got screwed when I did the right thing and called when asked. Since then I’ve waited for phone calls and the attitude is much more helpful. As the song states, when the world’s crashing in/and the room starts to spin… it’s a test you survive. Good stuff.
The capper in here is that they have a guitar solo… Stop for a second. There aren’t many bands or artists doing guitar solos. They went out with high button shoes. Being a guitar player I actually tend to like the idea of an instrumental solo in a song. Only if it works – it’s one reason why I don’t wing my solos when I do them. I think the reason guitar solos went out of style is because they weren’t cool. I will say that the guitar solo in this song works. It appears to replace the bridge which is smart. I also like how they switch up the chorus and change the way it plays the final time. Bonus points there.
Go grab Fear Zero now. Who knows, when my funding for touring finally hits, I’d like to hit the road for some dates with these guys. They rock!
Go breathe!
Great review of the song! Just so you know the song (as well as some other great songs off of “In Lights”) is also available on the brand-new album “Whole Damn Nation”, featuring some brand new songs from the band. You can currently get it now only at fearzero.com, and expect to see it in other major retailers in 2009!
My opinion on FZ’s music might be a bit skewed seeing as I know Ed Sadler personally from way back in high school. I will say one thing though, since being in contact with Ed’s music, it has renewed my enthusiaam for music in general. Something I thought I had lost years ago due to, what I thought, was the downhill slide of music as an entertainment choice for myself. Too much bangin’, crashin’, screamin’, and over the top antics led me away from music. Fear Zero’s music is a different beast all together. You can hear the guitar, you… Read more »
Thanks for the heads up on the album stuff.
