Ask 15 different people about something you’re dealing with in terms of another person and you’ll likely get 15 different answers to what you were looking for in confirmation. However, sometimes. Yes sometimes you’ll get a more unanimous agreement. That’s the funny thing about human behavior. So many people like to think they understand it. Hell, some people devote their life to it as a career.
How is it that some people believe they can read others and know exactly what someone is thinking? That’s a good question. Especially, since I thought I could do it. Sometimes it’s as plain as the nose on your face and you’ll still miss it. Much of how things work in terms of person to person relationships all comes down to timing and readability. As a musician, I would hope that I know timing. Yet, more often than not, I’m missing timing on so many things away from music that it’s rather sad.
I don’t know if I’m magnetic. Such that I’m able to draw people in, then in a moments notice, they’ll flip and push right away. Hmmm, that’s very descriptive and telling. ** mental note: think about incorporating that into a song. ** I’m not sure where it is when it happens, though I can certainly recognize it immediately afterwards. That flip. If only I could utilize a little more foresight and catch it before it happens.
Take for instance. I went thru a bit of a rigamarole with a song that I co-wrote earlier this year. Put out money and got roughly 95% of it done. Then the co-writer started getting people coming back saying the song didn’t work. However, they were listening to it uncompleted. That’s the worse time to go and get feedback. I decided to let that song sit. Last night I got a call from the co-writer asking if I would be cool with her having a producer produce it with her singing. I was like, sure, I don’t care. She is even willing that if anything changes in the song, the additional writers share would come out of her end and I’d keep my 50%. I’m fine with that.
How about when you’re like the character in today’s Single of the Day by George Harrison. That’s when you probably need to take a step back and evaluate things. For some reason, in the past year, I’ve jumped in head first into two situations where I thought I was getting good response and both times I got the magnetic flip. Only I wasn’t the one pushing away.
I suppose I’m not generally at a loss for words when talking to people. But I like there to be a purpose. Like getting to know someone because you care, for whatever reason. What is troubling is when someone initially sparks that same interest but then backs out. A year ago, I got a person who felt the best way to back out was to not answer a message, and not show up for a planned outing. Less than a year later the back out wasn’t a non-answer, but rather a more like a take-back. What’s a take-back? Good question. It’s where you’ve said something, intimated something to someone else, then wished you hadn’t.
So why today’s song. Because it can represent the ideal of hoping to change a mind. The reality, the only person capable of doing such a thing is the individual themselves. A long chat last night with a friend whom I’ve known for a few years but never actually met face to face revealed some things that I already knew about myself, but was ignoring. Sad, sad, sad.
I think I went in recently with the mindset of this catchy upbeat song. I figured if I had enough mind juice, I’d be able to overcome some weird obstacle. Had I been attempting to lose weight, quite smoking, or something, it could have been possible. Oh well.
I once heard that George got sued over this song. That it had been plagurized. If such is/was the case, I can understand why. It’s a catchy tune. Infectious. It gives the feeling that anything is possible if you have mind and the means. Solid production. Simple lyrics. Great performance. It all ads up to fun. That’s what music should be, fun! Sometimes it isn’t. Though I attempt to get the less fun times to be outweighed by the really fun times.
If you don’t have this Beatle’s solo stuff in your library, you’re missing out. Go now and add this to your library – legally of course.
