Changes hang in the air. Here in Los Angeles it’s been cooler than recent weeks. Today it’s even let loose with a little water from the sky. It remains overcast as of me typing this. Oh, there’s a little American history being made right now as well. At least it culminates today. I voted last week so I don’t have to partake it the madness today. The outcome today proves that either we’ll have our first black president, our oldest president ever elected to first term, or our first female vice president.
Oh, and a little tidbit of information… For those that claim Obama or Palin don’t have enough experience, think about this: There is a president in our past that had less experience. That president is considered by many to be one of the most effective presidents. Made even more famous as well for being assassinated. Abraham Lincoln. Time will tell later today as to which person we get to see in a leadership role. Even more time needs to be taken to see if something will come of them.
Either way I’m thinking that this election will end up humbling us. The spectacle and the insanity of it all. Additionally it doesn’t help that our financial system is in shambles and the politicians currently in power (this includes McCain and Obama) voted for a bailout against the wishes of many. It shows that all politicians currently in office are extremely out of touch with the people they represent. Which is probably why so many people are now taking to the polls to vent with a vote.
My only hope is that they don’t vote like sheep.
The one bonus of all this is, it’s shows that America is human and prone to making mistakes. Maybe it’s time to come back down to earth and join the rest of the planet in getting along with each other. One can only hope that dopey “we’re better than they are attitude” can disappear. I won’t hold my breath, but I’ll listen to a song like today’s and think that…
Stacee Lawson. She’s the artist you’re hearing right now. The message of being the saviour of your own soul is spot on. Of course people can point you towards what isn’t happening in your life or your world. But it is entirely up to the individual to make the decisions they make. Hopefully We as a country can make a good decision in the next 24 hours and the next 4 years.
Stacee describes herself as a folk rocker with a modern view. I actually hear her as an artist reviving an older more organic sound with some modern elements. I kinda hear a little hint of Stevie Nicks in her voice. There are elements to the music that tend to give it a much more retro feel. I’m thinking the guitar solos are certainly harking back to an era when a pop/rocker had a big guitar solo. It’s different to hear it now and to it done in a way that is pretty separate from the song and harmonized for that matter.
I do like the intro a lot. The wide spread vocal leaps out of the speakers. The drum loop slowly shifting around is cool too. The chorus kicks in and the song lifts up. Lots of little production tricks that are sprinkled in there help to provide the ear candy that keeps a listener listening. That’s a good thing.
Wherever you are today, I hope it’s a day of change and that you come back down!
