Some of the music world is abuzz. At least it was yesterday, and will likely continue again today as well. Seems that a former heavy weight in the music world has leaked a song from an album that is something like 15 years in the making. A heavy weight that harkens to an era that will likely be known as “the metal years”.
In case I’ve gone over your head, I’m talking about a band known as GNR short for Guns ‘N’ Roses.
There is a saga that goes with said band. A destructive force that has splintered the act from it’s glory days. Tales of drugs and alcohol abuse. I’m sure there’s plenty of tales about sex and wild nights too. However, this relates to GNR’s frontman. A man who calls himself Axl Rose and has been as some would call him – the Howard Hughes of Rock.
Being the music slut that I am, I took a listen. Of course curiosity is the driving factor. One wonders what the hell a song would be like if it took 15 years to write. Actually I don’t know how long it took to write the song Chinese Democracy, but I can say that it didn’t really move me. It had some good production, but as a song, a song song, it left a lot to be desired. Meaning, I only give it lip service here. You’ll have to dig elsewhere on the net or radio to hear it.
No instead, I’m going with what seems to be a much better soundtrack for GNR, Dead Man’s Party. All because the hype always overstates the reality. What better way to supplant an 80’s band with yet another 80’s band? It’s weird when you find a band from the past that was fairly popular and they don’t have an official website. Being that Danny Elfman has a brilliant career in the movies I highly doubt the fun stylings of his previous career will see a reunion.
The great thing about Danny and the music he creates is that it really sets a mood. In the case of Dead Man’s Party it’s a fun romp about the time of year we’re in right now. It brings an element of party to the Halloween scare. No it won’t scare the bejesus out of you. It won’t cure cancer but it will leave your toes tapping and your brain happy to move about like a corpse, whether you like Halloween or not.
I decided to post this with a youtube user’s creation because it makes it that much more fun. If you’re having a halloween bash this year and you don’t own Dead Man’s Party, get on the ball and float over to your nearest music haunt or click that ghostly link to iTunes above. You need this for your Halloween festivities!
