Getting back to the horror kick…
I watched 28 Weeks Later last night. I really liked the first one 28 Days Later, but I have to think that 28 Weeks Later ended up being a better movie. In case you aren’t familiar with it, the concept is a virus called the Rage virus infects people nearly instantaneously and turns them into blood thirsty monsters. It kills off nearly all of the UK in 28 Days.
The sequel is 28 Weeks Later and the US army is in London helping to repopulate the area. Of course something goes drastically wrong and the virus ends up busting out again…
One of the most powerful features to the movie is the soundtrack. Especially the theme. Some themes make or break a movie. Others are just background noise. Some go on to be as powerful or more powerful than the movie and define it. Such is my opinion of the theme for 28 Days. From the moment you hear it, it’s obvious there is some horror going on. Definitely some desperation. Therein lies the power in this song.
Much like the very small melodic movement in Jaws defines a fear of sharks, this theme defines the fear of a virus. Something very small that you can’t see but can destroy you in moments.
I wonder if all this will lead to me writing some scary music this month. Hmmm… I may have to try some Halloween music for fun. Until tomorrow, have fun, and rent a horror movie!
