I rented Underworld: Evolution last night. However, I figure I have to stick a little bit to the concept of Fallen Fridays. I haven’t really let it out as to what a Fallen Friday is in a long time. For those readers who haven’t dug thru the archives or are fairly new. The idea I had for Fallen Friday is to show an artist that was once great and has either disappeared, or possibly died, or has jumped the shark.
Ha, jumped the shark. There’s a good one. And here’s a really damn good question. Has the U.S. Government jumped the shark? Earlier this morning I came across the BBC news website (one of the many I tend to browse thru) with a headline stating that the US Bailout had passed. Oh no was my first reaction. I’m one of the people that felt the bailout was a horrendously bad idea. I’m no accountant, nor am I a financial wiz, but I do know that the underlying aspect of borrowing money with nothing to back it is a terrible idea. In fact, I generally think the whole concept of the Federal Reserve is terrible.
Thus I’m a bit ill at ease with what the future holds now that Wall Street has been given the green light for fucking things up royally. I’m also bummed that America is becoming a haven for private profit at the expense of the lower and middle class who are now being turned into socialists to support the über riché. That is destroying the fabric of the country, in a very sneaky way.
And this is scary.
Which brings me to Mr. Scary. Do a little search for guitar shredding and you’ll likely find stuff about guitar players in the 80’s and early 90’s. That era seemed to be when guitar playing and hard rock music dominated the music scene. It was also the time of dudes with long hair and tons of hairspray. One such guitar player who was prominent was George Lynch. He played guitar for a singer and group called Dokken.
George got a chance to do a little guitar solo thing on a record and named it Mr. Scary. That’s very fitting for the month of October and under the circumstances of the bailout. So take a journey back in time and listen to a bit of guitar shredding late 80’s style. When guitar players who had chops were considered to have scary abilities. Oh what it would have been like to be guitar player at that time when other guitar players would follow your every note and cop everything you did in order to be like you. How flattering. How scary.
When you need a little attack of guitardom, this is a worthwhile piece/song to have in your library. It has a lot of elements of very cool stuff in it and it rocks. What more do you need from a Fallen Friday? Go get it now!
