Balls are an interesting thing.
Who invented the first ball? What kind of ball was it? Was it a foot ball? A base ball? A basket ball? A golf ball? Maybe it was a dance ball. Or maybe an exercise ball. Could it have been a hand ball? Or a racquet ball? Possibly it was a tennis ball? Was it a super ball? A rubber ball? A dodge ball? How about stick ball?
Was it a colorful ball? Green ball? Mauve ball? Orange ball? Purple ball? Were they Red balls? Blue balls? Hmmm…
It can make you wonder. Don’t it? Sure it does. Especially that last one. The connotation of blue balls is funny. The term means a guy who was aroused by a girl and was unable to do anything about it. Have you ever seen balls turn blue from a lack of use? I haven’t.
Then there’s things like ball point pens and ball bearings. There’s even a thing called a ballpeen hammer. Which brings me to today’s song. Chris Whitley is very deserving of the Fallen Friday tag because he unfortunately has passed away. I’m pretty sure I’ve discussed that here on Single of the Day before.
Chris Whitley left behind a body of work that is nothing short of amazing. I’m not sure how to explain it. Dirt Floor is probably one of the coolest records that Chris Whitley did. Why? It’s him and a guitar in a barn with a microphone. That’s it. One take, one mic, one man, one guitar on a song and boom you have the finished recording. Very old school. Very daring. Intimate.
Obviously this is aptly titled with Ballpeen Hammer. All about bringing down the issues people gather in life and doing away with them. Looking forward to when everyone is done and ready to live in a state of ‘be’. Are you ready?
Use this song as a guide. Go get it now! Better yet, get the whole CD, I know you won’t be disappointed.
