Ever been to Russia?
Not many Americans can say that they have. I’m one of those who can say they have. I was fortunate to have a forward thinking high school and teacher set. Then I have to give massive props to my mom who made it possible for me to join a group of students to travel to Russia. It was a 14 day excursion that included Shannon Ireland and a brief layover in London.
It’s a trip I’ll never forget. Mostly for the main fact that the Russian airlines had lost our luggage for 10 days of the 14 day trip. Thanks to a well traveled mom, I had a change of clothes and needed things like soap, detergent, toothpaste, etc in my carry-on. I became everyone’s friend on that trip as I was the only person to have much needed necessities.
To say that traveling there was different is an understatement. The thing that really was wild was the subway system. Grand underground rooms of marble and tile. Then the trains themselves with no trash and no graffiti. Because I grew up partially in New York, I was used to the subways there. Trashy, dirty, and dingy. I was about to take a picture of the subway when I was confronted by two military guards who were very willing to confiscate my camera. Luckily I was able to show them that my camera still hadn’t taken a picture. Whew.
Despite that little brush with danger, the rest of the trip was a lot of fun. Very big country. Very different culture.
That memory is what was brought to my mind as Alexander Lunev was presented to my attention. It seems that Alexander is a composer from Russia who has had some chart topping success in Russia. Apparently it’s unheard of to have a hit sung in English and then to have it stay at the top of the charts for a while. Such is the case for the song you are hearing now.
Pop via a Russian bent. It has a very ethereal feel to me. Lots of elements of dance music to it. Maybe like it’s a combination of dance music with something like N’Sync. I don’t really know anything about Alexander or Dima. I do know that they have working sound that will always draw a listener. Pop. Certain types of pop will always have a market. The added bonus is they will always come back in style if they ever go out.
I wasn’t able to find him on iTunes. Thus I have to suggest going to Alexander’s website in order to purchase the CD. Go do it now!
