Ah, relaxing after a day of doing essentially nothing. I decided to use my 4th of July holiday for exactly that. No running around. No mad dash to do anything. No work. Just chill. I heard some fireworks, but actually didn’t really see any this year. A bit of change. Last 4th of July was pretty chill too. I had spent it with my former girlfriend Erin.
I didn’t even roll out of bed yesterday until about noon. I spent a vast majority of it reading. I did get one phone call about a music related thing. However, I will end up getting to that item today. There was a possible BBQ to attend yesterday, though it didn’t come thru. Eventually I decided I’d go see Hancock. It’s been getting mixed reviews. After seeing it, I can understand why.
Will Smith is one hell of an actor, but this now makes two movies in a row for me that weren’t so well thought out. Both Hancock and I Am Legend had great premises but the execution of each left a lot to be desired. In the case of Hancock, I’m going to go out on a limb and say it was as if Peter Berg was trying too hard to be cool with the camera. There were lots of camera moves that were unnecessary. Then with the music… Don’t even want to go there other than to say – obviously someone forgot to pay the music bill for the right tunes. The redeeming thing about the movie didn’t happen until about the last 15 minutes. Too bad they couldn’t capture that in the first hour and 15. Oh well.
After the movie I fired up the grill and created a meal fit for a king. I’ve had a hunk of meat marinating in pepper and garlic for a couple of days. I set it on the grill and proceeded to make a great meal that led to meat coma. The point at which you’ve had too much and you essentially sleep it off. What I noticed during the grilling and for that matter when I went for the movie, is that the air was murky. I was under the impression that the wild fires here in California were much farther north. So it’s odd that it covered the Los Angeles sky.
After the meal, I made do with yet another movie. Fellowship of the Ring. The first of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I have the nice boxset of the director’s cut. I like to dig it out every now and again. The real beauty of the movies is that every time I watch them I always catch something different that I didn’t see or notice before. I love that. It’s very much like creating all the additional sounds that can go into a song mix. The ear candy. With movies it can be the eye candy. That’s the fun, exploring the creation.
What does one do after a meat coma? Good question. For me, I’ll likely continue to chill this morning. Then I’ll record some voice work for a podcast called Buffy Between The Lines. Fun. I like voice over work. The challenge is what makes it fun. Afterwards, I’ll send out the information I was asked for yesterday. After that, I’ll likely dig out the mountain bike and hit the trails. Provided the sky isn’t still full of smoke and murk.
Because of the more laid back nature and my thoughts of food, I have picked a bluesier americana type tune by ThorNton Creek. Frying Pan, the music you’ve been hearing while reading this (provided you’re on the Single of the Day site) is a fun little ditty. Not overly aggressive. Which is a good fit for my mood. I’m not feeling aggressive. I’m feeling relaxed.
I get the impression I’d see ThorNton Creek in a small town festival as a headlining type of act. A group of older folk still keeping that young at heart mentality by playing some swinging beats and singing their hearts out. Could that be why musicians don’t seem to age like other peeps? Cause music keeps ya young? I wonder. Actually I really don’t know what ThorNton Creek looks like and I haven’t a clue as to how old they are. I do like the swing and I dig the vibe. It’s the kind of song that gives my feet a desire to tap while I’m siting. I’d also be doing a little bit of the white man’s overbite while swinging my arms and snappin my fingers as a shimmy from side to side in my chair.
Isn’t that the kind of song you need as your kickin’ it with a day off? Get thee to the links above and add it to your library.
The geezers here at ThorNton Creek Industries thank you for your kind comments! We’re glad you liked the song. There are a few more at http://www.thorntoncreek.com.
Thanks again.
