I got up this morning ready to say hey, lets get some songwriting done. I’ve got a session with a cat from Canada that I met friday. However, the first thing I see as I flip on the computer is that the wrong George died today. WTF? George Carlin died? One of the most brilliant and irreverent comedians ever. I absolutely love his style. Or the style he had. In fact I tend to cop some of his speachisms. Especially when someone asks me how I’m doing. My response is I’m alive and not unwell. A take off on something he had in a bit. It almost always catches people completely off guard.
That’s how his death came today. Something that caught me completely off guard.
Next, I got a message that a form that was filled out on friday morning. The one I wrote of that came in the middle of the night, was the incorrect form that was sent. FUCK! Now I’ve got to fill out yet another form for this shit. When will these people get their own process straightened out. I’m tired of jumping thru the wrong hoops when it’s their fucking problem.
In light of that, I’m going to have to cut my babbling short. I actually would like to rewind the morning. To a time before the wrong George died, and that I didn’t have to fill out another form. If that was the case, I could be on my way to Moab or Torrey or something. Somewhere where they have red dirt roads and life is probably a tad more relaxed.
Hence today’s selection from Kellee Bradley. A storied songwriter with lots of accomplishments under her belt. As you can hear, there’s a reason why. I like the clean sound of the recording. In fact there’s another artist I listened to yesterday whose recording actually outshone the song itself. I think Kellee’s song matches the quality of the recording that’s a great thing. I’m enjoying the fact that I can hear the dynamics of the pedal steel instrument, and the guitars – very jangly. Even the bass is coming thru my laptop speakers. That’s some fancy mixing to get that to happen. Also the drums give of the sense of the room they are recorded in. Dig it.
May your week have you finishing up in a little travelled place where you’re exploring a red dirt road. When it happens I’m sure you should have this song in your library! Go get it now.
