I know that this morning I broke my 8 mile barrier. At least I’m pretty sure I did. I probably could have gone farther, however I was in need of getting back to get to my day. Do you run? How far?
I also know that I’m feeling a bit accomplished in the past several days. I’ve finished several songs with co-writers. I’m tidying up the mix on one more. Then it’s off to be mastered. That’s where it’s done and ready to be output for archive. I think that’s when I feel accomplishment. When the recording is called done and the files are archived.
Speaking of archival things. Since I’ve had to revamp everything earlier this year for futureproofing, I’ve already noticed that I even set up my recordings a little different. But the process is a bit easier now. Because I’ve got a method.
Yesterday, several songs went off to A&R at Interscope. One song recently written with Heather Bradley is called Don’t Choose To Ignore. We shipped off the song as a guitar and vocal, despite having recorded more than that. But it sounds great. Ooof, enough about me.
Let’s get on with the song! The Only Thing I Know comes to me from the artist herself – Wendy Jans. Actually I was asked to listen to a song in particular which I thought was good, but this song resonated with me a little more. I’m really diggin the vibe of it. I particularly like the electric piano. I kinda wished I was versed enough to know if it is a wurlitzer or a fender rhoads or something. I gotta start revamping my gear ear.
What really matters apart from the gear is the final result. Hell a Casio toy keyboard can make great music if it fits the song correctly. So can a typewriter – as we’ve now heard on Single of the Day (a couple of times). Wendy’s backing vocals are really a key ingredient here. I like their place in the mix and the harmony. The mix is pro and everything has it’s place.
Lyrically it’s got a fun twist. The real question is did the person love themselves too much?!?
I do imagine this song is probably a great song for those romantic at heart and want to sit back and sip some wine. All to get you in the mood for some lovin. Go add it to your seducing collection – legally people, legally.
